Manchester United midfielder, Bruno Fernandes has told Rasmus Hojlund he hopes the Red Devils’ 3-2 win over Aston Villa won’t be up there with the “best days of his life” after the 20-year-old ended his Premier League goalscoring drought.
The Dane was under increasing pressure despite scoring five goals in the UEFA Champions League for his new team, going 1,027 minutes without a top-flight goal.
But with time running out, a corner ricocheted off John McGinn’s knee and fell to the former Atalanta man who lashed home with his left foot. This is after Alejandro Garnacho scored a brace to help United rally from a 2-0 deficit.
Both the player and his teammates let out wild celebrations, and a few minutes later, he was greeted with a standing ovation as he exited the field.
Following the victory, Hojlund dubbed the comeback win “one of the best days of my life” as the Red Devils ended a three league game without a win and a goal.
What Did Fernandes Say About Hojlund’s Statement?
However, according to The Mirror, captain Fernandes pushed the forward to build on the goal in his own post-match interview.
He said, “Obviously we were really happy for Rasmus to get that first goal, but not only for him, the fact it made the score 3-2 as well because we need the three points. He needs to score goals, he is eager to do it.

And pressed on Hojlund’s declaration, he replied: “I hope not (that it’s the best day of his life) because I hope there is more to come. We really need him and every striker in the team to score goals.”
With six goals this season, Hojlund is now tied as United’s top scorer across all competitions with Scott McTominay. And after his game-winning goal, United moved up to sixth place in the standings at the end of Boxing Day, after starting the day ranked ninth.
