Chelsea midfielder, Enzo Fernandez is reportedly set to undergo surgery on a groin injury and is anticipated to miss the remainder of the 2023/24 season.
The midfielder started Chelsea’s FA Cup loss to Manchester City and Arsenal 5-0 drubbing after being substituted during the Blues’ victory over Everton earlier this month. Ole, an Argentine media outlet as claimed by Football London stated that he participated in those games in spite of having an inguinal hernia and that a “decision” has since been made.
Fernandez has made the decision to undergo surgery in an attempt to recuperate in time to compete in Copa America this summer. The competition, which will take place in the US, is slated to begin on June 20 and end on July 14.
The decision is said to have been made following the Blues’ FA Cup elimination. There are reports of conversations between the medical staff of the club and the doctors of Argentina’s national team.
Ole states further that it will take an estimated three weeks for his recuperation before he steps up his Copa America preparations. Argentina wants Fernandez to be healthy because they depend on him greatly.
Even though he’s had a difficult time adjusting to life in west London, he’s determined to help his nation win more significant medals after Argentina won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Opening up about his spell at Stamford Bridge, Fernandez admitted: “The first six months weren’t easy, changing country, language, I had a child. It wasn’t easy coming here, but now everything is better, I’m more settled and enjoying it.”
Saturday (8 p.m. kickoff) at Villa Park will see Chelsea take on Aston Villa.
