Flick Highlights Differences Between Gavi, Olmo Amid Competition For Starting Spot

Tonight’s first leg of FC Barcelona’s UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash against SL Benfica is a pivotal contest. According to Mundo Deportivo, manager Hansi Flick discussed two of his players, Gavi and Dani Olmo, who have been vying for the starting position in attacking midfield this season and will do so for the game tonight, .

Although Flick emphasized the distinct qualities and advantages that each of these two players offer, he did not specify which of them would start later tonight.

“Gavi can play in different positions, in defense, he wants to press, and he also has good movement with the ball. He knows how to play it and is doing very well.

“As for Olmo, he likes playing in that position, he’s very good at scoring goals and takes advantage of every opportunity, so he’s a great player.”

Due to his ongoing recovery from the ACL tear he sustained in 2023, Gavi was unable to play until mid-October as he missed a portion of this season.

Flick made him a vital member of his team after he eventually returned to full fitness.

Dani Olmo has, however, been playing more frequently in recent weeks. This was also the case in the most recent game against Real Sociedad, when the German tactician stated that he had intended to start Gavi but decided to start Olmo instead because the former had a fever.
