Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores says his team cannot afford to wait for Troy Deeney to get fit. The fan favourite has not played for the Hornets since August 17 after picking up a knee injury at the start of the campaign.
As a result, Watford have struggled without his presence, and they sit bottom of the Premier League table, failing to win so far and picking up just five points from their first 10 matches.
Watford’s board have already sacked Javi Gracia and re-hired Flores earlier in the campaign, and the latter says he cannot wait for the forward to return.
Deeney is set to be ready after next month’s international break, but Flores says the club’s other attacking players need to step up to the plate. “I love Deeney, you all know that and we know how he can help the team, but right now he is not the solution,” he told a press conference. “He has a lot of character and represents well the values of the club: be organised, be brave, be compact and solid. This is the character we want.”
Flores has a number of selection headaches ahead of this weekend’s meeting with Chelsea, with Ismaila Sarr, Danny Welbeck, Tom Cleverley and Domingos Quina all absent.
Isaac Success and Etienne Capoue appear to have shaken off injuries to feature as Flores’ side look for their first win, which punters can back using their free bet.
