Former Ajax Star Bags Six Years Jail Term Following Involvement In Drug Trafficking

A Dutch court has reportedly sentenced former Ajax attacker Quincy Promes to six years imprisonment following his involvement in smuggling over 1,350 kilos of cocaine.

Promes was accused of trafficking 1,370 kilograms of cocaine last May, which led to charges against him. In January 2020, two consignments weighing 650 kg and 713 kg were seized in Antwerp.

Promes and a 32-year-old co-suspect were found guilty by the Public Prosecution Service of importing, exporting, transporting, and possessing the drugs.

The drugs were allegedly shipped from Brazil in two containers to Antwerp, where they were concealed in a shipment of sea salt.

According to NOS as reported by Daily Mail, the ex Ajax winger never spoke about the charges against him and he did not show up for the trial.

When the case was first brought forward last month, Dutch prosecutors had originally requested a nine-year prison sentence for the Spartak Moscow forward.

Prosecutors claimed that Promes “normalizes and almost romanticizes the cocaine trade” in their demand for the nine-year sentence.

According to the prosecution, Promes’ wealth enables him to invest and, as a result, moves up the organizational ladder.

“The case came to light after the police Criminal Intelligence Team received information that the 32-year-old man who now lives in Russia was involved in the cocaine trade,” the Dutch Public Prosecution Service said.

“He is also said to own crypto phones and has invested 200,000 euros in the trade.

“Many chat messages made it clear that both suspects were involved in bringing in, removing and further transporting and selling these two consignments.”
