The defender impressed for the Reds in preseason before joining Brentford for £25 million.

Before being hampered by a recent knee injury, the Dutchman had been a constant presence for the Bees.

He has started 24 of his 25 games under Thomas Frank and has performed at both centre-back and right-back for the West London side.

Van den Berg joined Liverpool from PEC Zwolle for £1.3 million in June 2019, but he only made four senior appearances for the club before spending the most of his time on loan.

Last summer, he finalized his permanent departure from Liverpool after enjoying brief stints with Preston North End, Schalke 04, and Mainz 05.

Ven den Berg left to pursue starting opportunities and he thinks it was the right move for his career, reports Echo.

He acknowledges Liverpool’s defensive injuries this season which have seen Trent Alexander-Arnold, Conor Bradley, Ibrahima Konate, and Joe Gomez all miss time at different points and have caused him to question whether he should have stayed.
