Former Tottenham Star Scores On Football Return Eight Months After Suffering Cardiac Arrest

After a cardiac arrest that left him in a coma for eight months, former Tottenham Hotspur player Nabil Bentaleb scored on his emotional comeback to football for Lille.

When Bentaleb, 30, experienced a cardiac arrest in June 2024, he was informed that his career might be over. However, Bentaleb was permitted to comeback by the French Football Federation, returning to training on Thursday before scoring on Sunday.

According to the Daily Star, Bentaleb scored just four minutes after he was brought off the bench for Ligue 1 side Lille.

“It’s worthy of a film,” said Lille boss Bruno Genesio after the full-time whistle during their clash with Stade Rennais. “He deserved it, because I don’t believe in luck, he believed in himself.

According to French media, the Algerian collapsed during a five-a-side football match in June. After that, Lille University Hospital placed him in an artificial coma.

The medical commission of the French Football Federation granted Bentaleb permission to resume playing in January. Lille did not, however, declare that he would return to competitive action until Wednesday.

Six minutes later after the Algerian found the net, former Arsenal forward Chuba Akpom completed the victory, moving Lille up to fifth place in Ligue 1.

Bentaleb acknowledged before the match that he had discussed his return to action with Christian Eriksen, with whom he played at Tottenham, in order to get advise.
