Tottenham defender Juan Foyth was delighted to return to action on Tuesday and feels they can build on a solid performance. Spurs ended a run of three successive defeats on home soil in the Champions League by downing Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday.
Harry Kane and Son Heung-min bagged a brace apiece while Erik Lamela also netted to wrap up a 5-0 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
It was a rare moment to celebrate in a disappointing season thus far for Tottenham fans and helps to restore confidence levels ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Premier League leaders Liverpool.
They lie seventh in the standings, having won just three of their nine games so far, amid reports of major unrest within the squad.
Sunday’s trip to Anfield may bring Tottenham crashing back down to earth as the Reds look to respond to a draw against Manchester United last time out in the league.
However, Foyth believes the emphatic win in Europe could prove to be a catalyst and aid them in getting their season up and running.
Foyth said: “Now we hope to continue building results (with the Club). I think the team is the same as last week, it’s just games. We can improve all the things we need to because we have a lot of faith in this group. We are all going to continue to give everything.”
The Argentinean made a cameo appearance from the bench against the Serbian outfit to mark his return to full fitness.
He was a key part of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans during pre-season but an injury in the Audi Cup victory over Bayern Munich has kept him sidelined during the early stages of the term.
Foyth, who joined Spurs from Estudiantes for £8million in the summer of 2017, revealed his delight at being back in the fold.
He added: “Of course, it’s my first appearance of the season and I’m happy to play – it’s always nice to touch the ball and be involved.”
