FPL GW16 Recap: What A Sonny Gameweek; iSoccer Winners

Some 380,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers were left to rue their decision for transferring out Heung-min Son (£9.6m) as he produced a masterclass performance against Newcastle United. The South-Korean talisman produced a goal and an assist thereby rewarding just over 3 million managers with a 17-point haul in gameweek 16.

For the first time this season, the most owned FPL asset, Erling Haaland (£14.0m) was out of Manchester City matchday squad and ultimately spelt bad news for his owners and those who went all the way to captain him.

But, some managers who gave him the armband were rescued by their decision to vice captain either Mohamed Salah (£13.2m) or Son. The former scored a goal and dished out an assist in Liverpool’s 2-1 win against Crystal Palace to reward his backers with 13 points.

It was a poor outing for Arsenal assets as they failed to produce any attacking return in their trip to Villa Park as they fell to a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

John McGinn’s (£5.5m) 7th-minute strike ensured none of Bukayo Saka (£9.0m), Gabriel Martinelli (£7.8m), Martin Odegaard (£8.3m), Gabriel Jesus (£7.9m), Oleksandr Zinchenko (£5.2m) and William Saliba (£5.5m) gave their owners any meaningful return.

For the second successive gameweek, Ollie Watkins failed to give any return to his backers following his blank against Man City in gw15.

After their home win over Chelsea in the previous gameweek, Manchester United were seen as heavy favourites in their clash against Bournemouth which made managers rush in to bring in their assets. But at the end of the game, they were left to bite their fingers in regret.

Dominic Solanke (£6.6m), Philip Billing (5.2m), and Marcos Senesi (£4.4m) all scored for the Cherries to record a comprehensive and shocking win at Old Trafford. James Tavernier (£5.4m) though, provided two assists in the game.

It seems as though, Brentford are beginning to miss the absence of Bryan Mbeumo (£6.9m) as they fall to a defeat against bottom-placed Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. The Bees failed to create clear-cut chances in the absence of Mbeumo, who is the leading player on all fronts for the club this season.

At the Goodison Park, Everton continued to raise eyebrows after the league management deducted 10 points from their total points this season for breaching the Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

The Toffees’ back-to-back victories at Stanley Park against Newcastle United and Chelsea have increased the popularity of their assets. Abdoulaye Doucoure (£5.5m) scored in the two games, Dwight McNeil (£5.4m) also produced attacking returns.

Please Note: Winners will be contacted directly by the iSoccer FPL admins ONLY if they have dropped a comment or their team names at any point during the season. Winners who haven’t fulfilled any of the above requirements would have their win passed down to a next eligible manager (who has sent in comments).

This will be done on the next Gameweek’s Deadline Day (provided winners didn’t comment still). And once payments are made to another manager, it becomes irreversible.

No manager is entitled to win in two consecutive GWs. So, any reward of such would be passed down to the next manager in line. This is necessary to make winnings go round.

Net points for the week will be used in picking winners, rather than gross points.

Also Note: Each player is entitled to only ONE team. Therefore, payments will be denied from players with more than one team, and passed to next manager.

All players are also advised to follow the social media handles and to visit the iSoccer website frequently.
