Chelsea have triggered a one-year contract extension option to keep Fran Kirby at the club until 2024, despite her knee injury.
The England star has been out since February with a knee injury suffered against West Ham, leaving her out for the rest of the WSL season and the 2018 Women’s World Cup.
While Kirby has only made 13 appearances in all competitions this season, Chelsea have recognized her worth and have triggered a one-year extension on her current contract.

Despite not playing a single minute since suffering a knee injury in the Continental Cup semi-final on February 9, Kirby’s seven goals and one assist have boosted yet another Chelsea bid for league and cup victory.
Since joining the Blues from Reading in 2015, the attacker has become synonymous with the club, becoming the club’s top goalscorer with 110 goals in 175 appearances and winning 13 trophies.
Kirby became the first female to win the FWA Player of the Year title in 2017/18, after her PFA accolade that same season for 25 goals in all competitions.
Kirby missed the most of the 2019-20 season due to pericarditis, and he missed the last parts of the 2021-22 season owing to exhaustion.
