French Prosecutors Open “Rape” Investigation Into Achraf Hakimi

Paris Saint-Germain full-back Achraf Hakimi has been accused of rape, and French prosecutors opened an investigation into the matter on Monday, according to a source familiar with the situation.

A 24-year-old woman has accused the Moroccan male of raping her on February 25 at his residence in a suburb of Paris.

The insider, who is corroborating a report in the Parisien daily, claims that the woman reported the event to the police on Sunday but did not press charges.

Although the Nanterre public prosecutor’s office, which is in charge of the case, declined to comment, they told AFP that “information already made public” in the media had “undermined the necessary investigations to find out the truth”.

Hakimi was a member of the Morocco team that placed fourth in Qatar in the World Cup.

Born in Madrid, his penalty secured a 3-0 shoot-out win over Spain to steer Morocco into uncharted territory, with the north African side going on to become the first from the Arab world to reach the last four at a World Cup.

And late Monday he was at the FIFA Best awards ceremony in Paris, where he was named in the FIFPro men’s world team of the year.

On stage to collect the award he stood alongside another award winner, his PSG teammate and close friend, Kylian Mbappe.
