Gabriel Jesus Takes Subtle Shot At Guardiola As He Enjoys New Arsenal Role

Gabriel Jesus has had a tremendously impressive debut for Arsenal, as the attacker has dazzled supporters in each of the team’s first two games.

After contributing two goals and two assists in the 4-2 victory over Leicester City on Saturday, he was awarded Player of the Match.

He didn’t score a goal against Crystal Palace on the first day, but he did perform admirably as Arsenal got off to a great start.

What Were Gabriel’s Words?

Following his £45 million move from Manchester City to Arsenal last month, Jesus has confessed that he is enjoying his game far more.

The 25-year-old stated that Pep Guardiola’s coaching had begun to undermine his confidence.

“I started playing much more on the wing at City and for Brazil. For a while I thought that.

“But I’ve changed my mentality, I believe much more in myself now. I’m smiling again playing football.

“I’m very blessed as I can play across all front three but I am a No.9. I am there to finish our chances.

“Not only that but to help the team as a whole. It’s normal to pick up and think that you can’t play with 9, that I’m a winger,” he said.

During the previous campaign, Guardiola primarily utilized Jesus as a right winger, with Phil Foden, Kevin de Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, or Raheem Sterling serving as the “false nine.”

Although they failed to win the Champions League once more, it turned out to be a plan that worked for City as they won the Premier League for the fourth time in five seasons.

In the 5-1 victory over Watford, Jesus did appear as a No. 9 and scored four goals.

The Brazilian international however does appear to be happier at the Gunners.

He is allowed to express himself and enter positions that he wouldn’t have been allowed to at City.

Guardiola’s shape requires you to be incredibly disciplined and stick to your role rather than roam around.
