Galatasaray are reportedly set to begin criminal proceedings against Jose Mourinho for “derogatory statements” against Turkish people.
In response to the Fenerbahce manager’s remarks after Monday’s 0-0 draw between the top two teams, the club said that it would also file complaints with FIFA and UEFA.
After an early challenge, the former manager of Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Real Madrid said that the Galatasaray bench were “jumping like monkeys” and that the game was better since it wasn’t refereed by a Turkish referee.
Mourinho “has persistently issued derogatory statements directed towards the Turkish people” since taking charge at Fenerbahce in June 2024, according to a statement from Galatasaray as reported by The Irish Independent.

“Today, his discourse has escalated beyond merely immoral comments into unequivocally inhumane rhetoric,” the statement said.
“We hereby formally declare our intention to initiate criminal proceedings concerning the racist statements made by Jose Mourinho, and shall accordingly submit official complaints to UEFA and FIFA.”
Mourinho was fined nearly £15,000 and given a one-match suspension earlier this season for his reaction to Fenerbahce’s 3-2 Super Lig triumph at Trabzonspor.
Following a fiery post-match interview, the Portuguese was accused of “unsportsmanlike behaviour towards opposing team fans” and “diminishing the value of Turkish football and… discrediting the impartiality of the referees and other match officials.”
