“The game is not controlled by one team” – Ibrahimovic surprised by Premier League’s competitiveness

Manchester United star Zlatan Ibrahimovic has admitted he has been surprised by the competitiveness of the Premier League, despite having played all over Europe.

The 35-year-old joined United this summer from Paris Saint-Germain, but has also played for Barcelona in Spain, as well as in Inter Milan, Juventus and AC Milan in Italy. He also spent three years at Ajax early on in his career.

The striker added to his Premier League goal tally with a brace in United’s 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion at the weekend, to put Jose Mourinho’s men just four points behind Arsenal, who are in the final Champions League spot.

He told Manchester Evening News: “The only thing that surprises me is that the game is not controlled by one team. Back and front, back and front, and the rhythm is high.

“I knew about this and I was prepared for it. This is how the game is and you have to adapt your body to it.

“I’ve played in different championships, different countries and you need to adapt your body to the game and the way it’s played here.”

Despite questions over his age, the former Swedish international has adapted well to life in English football and has scored 11 goals in 16 league games.

The Red Devils end the year with two home games as Sunderland and Middlesbrough visit Old Trafford on Boxing Day and New Years’ Eve, respectively.
