Gary Neville has branded Marcus Rashford “unprofessional” for flying to New York during the international break.
Manchester United striker Rashford took full advantage of his continued England omission by flying to the United States for a mini-break, where he watched a New York Knicks basketball match.
Rashford returned to Manchester on Monday to begin training under new manager Ruben Amorim, but former United captain Neville said the 27-year-old displayed a lack of professionalism during his trip to the States.
“The professionalism, looking after your body, and making sure you’re best prepared for the next training session is critical to every decision you make during the season,” Neville stated on Sky Bet’s Stick To Football podcast.
“He needs a mental break, he needs to get away and recuperate with friends, and then you can discuss venue options. How far do you fly? What is the time difference? Is that going to cause jet lag? Is that going to cause stiffness from being on a 12-hour flight?

Casemiro, a United midfielder, also traveled to the United States during the international break, and Neville chastised the 32-year-old Brazilian for his perceived lack of intelligence in doing so.
“This is on Casemiro more than Rashford, but if I’m 30 years old and I’m looking after my body – and he’s won five Champions Leagues and is an unbelievable player – but if he was away with Brazil for 10 days, we would say he would struggle this weekend because he’s been away,” Neville went on.
“They [Casemiro and Marcus Rashford] selected the international break. If you’re discussing the tiny details of being as professional and prepared as possible for a training session on a Monday night, that isn’t the ideal choice of venue.”
