Genk coach Felice Mazzu claims Liverpool are “probably the best” team in Europe but he is confident that his players can pick up a result when they meet. The Belgian outfit will play host to the reigning European champions in Champions League Group E on Wednesday night targeting a first-ever win in the competition at the 15th attempt.
Genk followed up a dismal 6-2 drubbing at Salzburg in their opening game with a creditable 0-0 draw on home soil against Italian outfit Napoli.
Liverpool started their defence with a 2-0 defeat at Napoli and edged out Salzburg in a seven-goal thriller at Anfield last time out.
Mazzu feels the Reds’ attack is their main threat, and added: “They have a lot of players with maturity; they have a high press and like to play at one end of the pitch. We must be attentive.”
The 53-year-old was hopeful that Mohamed Salah would still be absent with the ankle problem which forced him to miss the 1-1 draw at Manchester United.
However, the Egypt international has been back in training and is in the squad for the game this week.
Nevertheless Mazzu feels United provided the blueprint for his Genk players to try and emulate in a bid to pick up a positive result.
He added: The Manchester United system played with a five-man defence. It was a good thing for them. We have a lot of options so we will see.”
Punters looking to use their free bet can back Genk to give Liverpool more travel sickness in Europe after their loss in Italy last month.
