Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard wasn’t impressed by Aaron Ramsey‘s play- acting in the Champions League last night and joked that he thought the “Welsh are meant to be tough”.
Arsenal drew 2-2 with Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain which meant that they require a victory in their last game of the group stages against FC Basel to secure top spot.
It’s a difficult away tie but they defeated the Swiss side at the Emirates earlier this season and they’ll need a big performance.
But it was Ramsey’s alleged play-acting that, for Gerrard and Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand, deserved criticism as an altercation with Edinson Cavani saw the striker push the Welsh midfielder in the chest, only for the Arsenal star to hold his face.
“I think it’s one of them things Aaron will look back on and he’ll be slightly embarrassed,” he said to BT Sport.
“I don’t think there’s any need for that reaction. The Welsh are meant to be tough!”
Rio Ferdinand also teased Ramsey, saying: “If this was a foreign player we’d be going mad. He’ll be embarrassed when he looks back at that.”
Other than that incident, Ramsey managed to put in a strong performance against the French champions, but fans are more likely to remember his play- acting than his overall game.
The Welshman completed 87% of his passes which was 58 successful in total, while he also attempted 11 tackles and won six of them.
