Alexis Sanchez came off the bench to tee up Danny Welbeck to halve the deficit before the Dutch midfielder found the back of the net in Arsenal’s 3-1 loss to Liverpool on Saturday night at Anfield and Steven Gerrard has warned Arsenal that there will be up to 15 top European clubs interested in signing the Chilean this summer.
The Chile international’s future has been a source of constant debate in recent months after Sanchez failed to agree a new deal with Arsenal despite protracted negotiations.
Arsene Wenger made the controversial decision to omit Sanchez from his starting line-up for their trip to Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
And the Arsenal manager’s decision backfired after Liverpool eased to a 3-1 win against the Gunners to leave the north London side’s top-four bid in doubt.
Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane scored first-half goals to put Liverpool in charge before Netherlands international Georginio Wijnaldum restored their two-goal cushion.
Speaking to BT Sport about Sanchez’s future, former Liverpool captain Gerrard admitted that he doesn’t envisage the South American remaining at Arsenal.
“Arsenal are in trouble. Alexis Sanchez will have so many options. He is a top world-class player. I predict there will be 15 top teams after him in the summer.”
