Ghana international winger Christian Atsu has been rescued from the rubble caused by the earthquake which hit Turkey and Syria on Monday.
A 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Southern Turkey and Northern Syria in the early morning hours caused unimaginable damage on a large scale.
More than 4,800 people had been confirmed dead as of Tuesday lunchtime, local time, and hundreds more are still believed to be under rubble from the collapse of many tall buildings.
Atsu was one of several people associated with Hatayspor who had not been found in the hours following the initial earthquake, which was followed by numerous aftershocks and tremors, one of which measured 7.5.
However, vice president Mustafa Ozat has confirmed to Radyo Gol that the 31-year-old has been rescued and is receiving medical care.
Taner Savut, the club’s sporting director, is still missing, and Turkish sports presenter Yagiz Sabuncuoglu has launched a social media appeal to help with his rescue.
Taner Savut hocanın bulunduğu Rönesans Rezidans’a ACİL VİNÇ LAZIM! Bina yan yatmış durumda. Lütfen! Yok mu oraya vinç gönderecek bir kişi? Zaman daralıyor!

He said: “A CRANE IS NEEDED URGENTLY for Ronesans Residence, where Taner Savut is located! The building is on its side. Please! Isn’t there someone to send a crane there? Time is running out!”

On Monday, it was reported that Atsu, a former Chelsea and Newcastle United player, was on the ninth floor of the building in question when it collapsed in the aftermath of the earthquake.
A day earlier, Atsu scored a dramatic 97th-minute free kick to lift Hatayspor out of the Super Lig relegation zone with a 1-0 win over Kasimpasa.
As of now, the Turkish football schedule has been halted, with Monday’s three Super Lig fixtures quickly postponed.
