Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud believes the rest of the Gunners squad want Arsene Wenger to sign a new contract this summer.
Following a damaging 3-1 loss to West Brom last weekend, Wenger told reporters in his post-match press conference he has already made a decision on his future, with an announcement promised in the near future.
Arsenal are yet to withdraw their offer of a two-year extension to Wenger’s contract.
France international Giroud has previously vocalised his desire for Wenger to stay at the Emirates Stadium beyond this summer, claiming the entire dressing room was ‘100 per cent’ behind the manager earlier this month.
He reinstated his wish to see Wenger remain his boss, telling Infosport+: “We want to see Arsene Wenger sign an extension. To continue the adventure, because we support him.
“We hope to win the cup and qualify for the Champions League.”
Wenger himself has yet to signal when he will make an announcement on his future, a stance which has been met with derision from fans and pundits.
Former Chelsea and Blackburn striker Chris Sutton said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “[Wenger is] an uncle who doesn’t want to leave the party.
“It’s a dictatorship and he surrounds himself with yes men. He’s been selfish. I’m surprised Steve Bould [Wenger’s assistant] doesn’t get hold of him and say this is the reality.
“He’s taking the club backwards. They have just accepted mediocrity.
“His work in the transfer market has been a failure lately.
“Do the right thing and if you’re not going to do the right thing then tell us.”
