The name Giuseppe Rossi may give some fans the impression of an aging, perma-crocked ex-Manchester United striker but the Italian showed he’s still got it in front of goal by smashing a hat-trick past Las Palmas on Monday night.
The Italian, still only 30, completed his trio with a typically accurate left-footed penalty box strike into the bottom corner to add to two first-half goals that had the points wrapped up with time to spare.
Only a late Pedro Bigas effort brought the visiting Canary Islanders within a glimmer of a point in Galicia but aside from a couple of late sitters, Quique Setien’s side showed little belief in reversing their dreadful form away from home this season.
Both sides are on the road this Thursday with Las Palmas making the hop back to the mainland for a match with Eibar whilst Celta face Valencia at Estadio Mestalla, now six points clear of Los Amarillos as their faint chances of a Europa League spot persist.
