The 1958, a Manchester United fan organisation, believes the Glazers are keeping the club ‘hostage’ as fears grow that a planned takeover is ‘increasingly implausible’. The Glazer family has made Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani wait while the takeover issue unfolds.
It was suggested earlier this week that a new owner could be in place by October, but reports have subsequently refuted any claims of progress. The two very different proposals are still on the table, with Sheikh Jassim’s most recent offering coming at the beginning of June.

The Glazers have kept silent on the matter, fueling greater discontent among the club’s supporters. The Glazers stated in November 2022 that they were considering selling, with Sheikh Jassim and Ratcliffe swiftly emerging as the frontrunners.
Their initial bids were submitted in February of this year, but the Glazers have been holding out for bids closer to £6 billion ever since. It has resulted in the takeover talks stalling during the summer, with United fans enraged that a new owner has not been appointed in time for the start of the Premier League season.
According to the i, there are genuine concerns that the Glazers’ sale is becoming “increasingly unlikely.” Sheikh Jassim’s group is reportedly apprehensive that the Glazers may refuse to relinquish control of the club.
United supporters are planning additional protests, with the Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST) targeting the Glazers. “It’s been nine months and the hope for change has faded, and fans are just exasperated, fed up, and desperate for some news,” said spokesman Chris Rumsfitt.
