Gnabry warned he would rot on the Bayern Munich bench

Former Werder Bremen goalkeeper Tim Wiese fired a warning Serge Gnabry‘s way when discussing his future at the club, claiming he would “rot” on Bayern Munich‘s bench.

Following his move to Bremen in the summer of 2016, Gnabry has been the club’s best performer in the Bundesliga so far this season, finally fulfilling his vast potential. The 21-year-old joined Arsenal’s academy from Stuttgart in 2011, where he made his first-team breakthrough a year later.

The German international began to establish himself in Arsene Wenger’s side in the 2013/14 campaign, but suffered an injury that curtailed his progress, missing most of the following season. With that in mind, Gnabry was loaned
out to West Bromwich Albion last term under Tony Pulis, but he couldn’t break into their first-team.

Subsequently that loan deal was cut short by Arsenal, who then sold Gnabry permanently at the end of the season. However the winger has made real progress back in his homeland, starring in a struggling team, which has alerted the attention of Bayern in particular. Wiese, formerly of Bremen, has given him a stark warning though.

“You will rot on the bench and end up at Swansea City!” the retired goalkeeper said (via Spox). “He is 21 and he still has a lot of time. He performs great football at Werder Bremen and shouldn’t rush a move to a big club.”

Gnabry has scored seven goals and created 28 chances in 16 Bundesliga appearances this term, with an average pass accuracy of 78%, as Bremen sit 15th on 16 points, three ahead of Hamburg in 16th.

As for Bayern, they sit top on 42 points from their 17 fixtures, three clear of RB Leipzig in second.
