Gomes swiftly discharged after surgery

Everton midfielder Andre Gomes has been discharged from hospital just two days after suffering a horrific ankle break against Tottenham. The Portugal international had surgery on Monday on the fracture dislocation of his right ankle that he suffered during the second half of Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Goodison Park following a challenge from Son Heung-min.
The operation has been deemed a success and he’s been able to leave hospital swiftly, with Everton now set to closely monitor Gomes’ early recovery from the horror injury that marred the game.
A brief message from Everton on Twitter provided the following update: “Following a successful operation yesterday, Andre Gomes has now been discharged from hospital and will continue his rehabilitation under the care of our medical team.”
Gomes fell awkwardly after being tackled from behind by Son, who was subsequently shown a red card, and then colliding with Serge Aurier. The South Korean forward was distraught when he saw the extent of the damage to Gomes and a number of other players were visibly shocked and upset.
The injury forced an extended injury time at the end of the game and allowed the Blues to equalise through Cenk Tosun, cancelling out Dele Alli’s opener for Spurs.
A previous statement from Everton on Monday said the operation had gone “extremely well” and that the 26-year-old was expected to make a full recovery but the former Barcelona man is still likely to be sidelined for between six months and a year.
Everton will miss the creative influence of Gomes in the middle of the park as they aim to move up the Premier League table after a difficult first three months of the season. After joining from Barca, initially on loan, in summer 2018, Gomes made the switch permanent last summer when the Toffees shelled out £22.5million for his services.
The midfielder has managed 38 appearances in all competitions in total for Everton, scoring once.
