Gordon Makes Promise To Alexander-Arnold After Failing To Score

Anthony Gordon has reportedly apologized after missing an opportunity to score from Trent Alexander-Arnold pass and vowed to make things right going forward.

The 23-year-old winger from Newcastle, who made few appearances for the Three Lions at Euro 2024, was a member of the England team that defeated the Republic of Ireland 2-0 in Dublin on Saturday evening.

Declan Rice eventually scored the opening goal for England after Gordon squandered a chance. With a second goal soon after, Jack Grealish gave interim head coach Lee Carsley a convincing victory.

Gordon was superbly set up by Alexander-Arnold, who began the game as a right-back, but Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher thwarted the former Everton player.

According to LiverpoolFC, during his post-match interview with ITV, Gordon emphasized his desire to leave his mark on his country and promised to make the most of Alexander-Arnold’s passing abilities by scoring the next time.

Discussing the missed opportunity, he said: “I should have scored so I’ve still got a lot to work on. I owe Trent one for that pass.. I’ll makeup for that.”

Although Gordon and Alexander-Arnold might be playing together more often for England in the upcoming months. There were talks last summer that they would start playing together at their club.

According to information made public in June, Gordon was in talks to move to Anfield as part of his Newcastle’s efforts to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Gordon, a lifelong Reds fan, saw his contract negotiations collapse, and Newcastle went on to sell other players in order to comply with the regulations.
