Gotze: I’m still in contact with Jurgen Klopp

Bayern Munich playmaker Mario Gotze has revealed that he is still in contact with Jurgen Klopp, although the two have not discussed a potential transfer to Liverpool.

Gotze and Klopp both made their name with Borussia Dortmund, winning back- to-back Bundesliga titles and reaching the 2013 Champions League.

Gotze then joined arch-rivals Bayern whilst Klopp resigned from his position at Dortmund at the end of the 2014/15 season before he moved to Merseyside last year following the sacking of Brendan Rodgers.

Because of Gotze’s lack of game time this season, as well as his relationship with Klopp, there have been plenty of reports suggesting that the pair could link up together at Anfield.

Speaking to ZDF TV, as reported by the Liverpool Echo, Gotze surprised everyone by admitting that he and Klopp are still in contact before confirming that there had been no talk of a transfer.

“We are texting now and again, he was my coach at Borussia Dortmund, but there is nothing special,” said the 23-year-old World Cup winner.

And when asked whether they had discussed a transfer, Gotze said: “No.”

When quizzed about the possibility of Gotze leaving, Bayern boss Pep Guardiola said that the attacking midfielder was a key player for the team, although given that the Spaniard is going to leave at the end of the season, it’s not really his decision.

It’ll be up to new manager Carlo Ancelotti to make a decision on Gotze’s future and, if he is to leave, there’ll likely be no end of suitors for a man who scored the winner in the 2014 World Cup final.
