Chelsea reportedly face the prospect of shelling out a world record payout fee of £50m if they sack head coach Graham Potter.
The Blues signed then-Brighton & Hove Albion manager Thomas Tuchel to a five-year contract in September.
Potter’s appointment appeared to be a masterstroke by the club’s new owners at first, as he recorded six victories and three draws in his first nine matches, but he has failed to build on that success.
Instead, Chelsea finds itself in 10th place in the Premier League standings, needing to overcome a 1-0 deficit against Borussia Dortmund in order to advance to the Champions League quarter-finals.
Chelsea have not won a Premier League match since January 15, and they have only scored four goals in their last ten games in all competitions.
Despite the club’s 2-0 loss against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon, Potter is said to have the support of the club’s board.
According to The Mirror, if the Blues decide to change their approach, they will have to pay an exorbitant compensation charge to Potter.

As per the report, Potter could earn almost £50m if he is sacked barely six months into a long-term contract.
A consortium led by Todd Boehly also spent more than £20m to acquire Potter’s services from Brighton at the end of the summer.
While Chelsea’s owners have not been shy about investing huge money on new players, it remains to be seen whether that will extend to changing managers if the squad does not progress under Potter.
In theory, the West Londoners would have to pay additional costs to obtain the services of a fresh face, if they were working at the time.
