Graham Potter ‘Will Not Be sacked If Chelsea Miss Top Four’

Graham Potter ‘Will Not Be sacked If Chelsea Miss Top Four’

New Chelsea coach Graham Potter will not face the sack if if his team miss out on the top four and fail to qualify for the Champions League this season.

The Blues announced on Thursday afternoon that the 47-year-old had been named as Thomas Tuchel’s replacement following the German’s dismissal the previous day.

Chelsea moved quickly to secure Potter from Brighton & Hove Albion, despite links with Ruben Amorim, Zinedine Zidane, and Mauricio Pochettino.

The former Swansea City and Ostersunds manager has been offered a five-year contract by the powers-that-be, but he has inherited a challenging situation at Chelsea.

Tuchel was sacked less than 24 hours after the Blues fell 1-0 to Dinamo Zagreb in their Champions League opening, and Chelsea have had a terrible start to life in the Premier League as well.

Will Graham Potter Be Sacked If Chelsea Fail To Make Top Four?

Chelsea are sixth in the table with 10 points from six games, three points behind fourth-placed Brighton and five points behind current league leaders Arsenal.

According to The Mirror, Graham Potter has been assigned with leading Chelsea to a top-four finish, although the board will not fire him immediately if he fails to do so.

According to the report, a spot in the Champions League remains a key part of Chelsea’s success this season, but finishing outside the top four is not a “deal-breaker” for Potter.

Potter’s claimed to have received assurances from owner Todd Boehly and co-owner Behdad Eghbali that he will be given adequate time to construct a squad in his own style, with Blues executives confident that the Englishman is the ideal long-term choice.

Potter had a record of 43 wins, 43 draws, and 48 defeats in 134 games as Brighton’s manager, will enjoy a quick reunion with Marc Cucurella at Stamford Bridge and is eager to begin working with the Blues team.

Graham Potter was set to take charge of Chelsea for the first time against Fulham on Saturday. Due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, all Premier League fixtures for this weekend have been postponed.
