Grealish is the main man at Villa – Targett

Aston Villa defender Matt Targett has hailed the influence of Jack Grealish after he helped them defeat Brighton on Saturday. The home-grown hero scored the equalising goal for Villa on the stroke of half time after Brighton opened proceedings mid-way through the first half thanks to Adam Webster.
The second period was tight and tense but it was Targett who netted the winner in the 94th minute following a great pass from the attacking midfielder into the box to make the scoreline 2-1.
Dean Smith’s side ascended to 12th following the weekend’s results as they aim to stay in the Premier League at the first time of asking following promotion from the Championship.
Grealish was been widely acclaimed for performances so far this campaign with calls from some quarters to include him in the next England squad in November.
He has registered four goals in all competitions so far this season with two of them coming in the Premier League.
And, Targett says the 24-year-old is currently the most important man in the Villa team and has hailed his performances. “He was inspirational. He’s the main man here,” he said. “We know his ability. He’s been showing it for a while. “But it’s great to see him doing it back in the Premier League now. I am close with him and it’s just nice to see him flying with a goal and assist.”
Grealish was injured for a portion of last season but came back for Villa’s run as they ended the Championship season in barnstorming form.
They defeated West Brom in the play-off semi-final last season before beating Derby 2-1 at Wembley to seal a return to the Premier League at the third time of asking.
Smith made several signings in the off-season and Villa were the second-highest spenders behind Manchester United, though Grealish is still a mainstay of the side.
Targett was one of those new faces after arriving for £14million from Southampton, but did not make his first appearance in the Premier League until September 28 when he played in the 2-2 draw with Burnley.
