Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann has said that not even Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane could convince him to move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
The 25-year-old has been one of La Liga’s finest performers in recent seasons, but he has raised his performances for Diego Simeone’s side up another level this campaign.
Griezmann finished the domestic campaign with 22 goals in 38 matches, but has also netted a further seven in 12 Champions League games for the finalists this term.
The France international’s form has prompted plenty of talk about his future, with a Premier League switch being heavily spoken about.
However, it seems that no one will be able to lure Griezmann away, especially Atletico’s rivals Real Madrid who are managed by the iconic Zidane – someone Griezmann is sure to have looked up to as a youngster.
“If Zidane calls me [and asks me to join Real] I will say that I’m at Atletico,” Griezmann told Canal Plus, as reported by Goal.
“Zidane is a great person, but I’m here. I’m even talking to renew my contract. I hope [the talks] will succeed.”
Griezmann is currently under contract at the Vicente Calderon until June 2020 and there has been plenty of talk that he may extend his deal in the capital.
Should Atletico Madrid get their hands on the famous Champions League trophy this month, then it certainly begs the question as to why Griezmann would want to leave.
Griezmann will be hoping he can take his form into the European Championships this summer and do what Zidane did on so many occasions in a France shirt – inspire the nation to glory.
