Antoine Griezmann has emphatically quashed any notions that he may be planning to switch Atletico Madrid for Chelsea this summer.
The French forward has been strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge for some time and the Daily Mail even reported that he had told close friends he was interested in the move to the Premier League.
He has now denied these reports and insisted that he sees his future with Atletico Madrid, for whom he has scored 12 league goals this season, whilst assisting a further two.
Speaking to the Spanish media on Wednesday (via Goal), he responded to speculation of a move to Chelsea by stating: “I’m fine here, I’m at ease.
“I want to continue here and I think the club’s intention is not to sell, so I’m not going.”
However, Griezmann will no doubt attract a number of interested parties when the transfer window next opens, having had an exceptional season and a half at the Vincente Calderon.
He netted 25 goals in all competitions in his debut campaign and has continued to improve, showing some magnificent form this term.
The 24-year-old is Atletico’s top scorer in the Champions League, netting four times in six appearances. Furthermore, he created 16 chances in the group stage of the competition.
He also boasts a remarkable shot accuracy of 83% in this season’s Champions League, which is far higher than any of his teammates.
Chelsea have a working relationship with Atletico Madrid in regards to the transfer market, having a completed a number of acquisitions with the club in the past; most notably Diego Costa and Filipe Luis at the start of last season.
The west London club’s fans will be hoping they can do everything in the power to change the Frenchman’s mind and bring to Stamford Bridge this summer, as their only permanent strikers at present are Costa and Loic Remy.
