Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann wants £400,000-a-week if he is to snub interest from Barcelona and join Manchester United.
The Frenchman is United’s primary target, with Jose Mourinho working on a deal worth £89m for the player to move to Old Trafford in the summer.
The striker is believed to have been keen joining the Red Devils last year but Catalan giants Barca have since shown an interest.
And according to The Sun, the Premier League club have now been told that their initial wage offer of £290,000-a-week is way short of what Griezmann wants.
The 26-year-old is asking for an extra £100,000-a-week on top of that having seen some of the staggering deals that have been made over the past year.
An Old Trafford source said: ‘The goalposts have moved significantly since the first attempt to sign Griezmann.
‘The package offered last year which was agreed is now a lot less than what he wants next summer. It might be too much even for us to afford. The club is desperate to sign him but it is an awful lot of money.
‘His people are making different demands which the club might be reluctant to give in to.’
