Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has reportedly warned his players that their UEFA Champions League defence will only be accomplished if they don’t have their sights set on the Wembley showdown.
As the new season begins this week against Crvena Zvezda, the Spaniard wants his players to feel the burden of being the defending European champions. While simultaneously concentrating completely on making it out of Group G.
Red Star Belgrade, RB Leipzig, and Young Boys make up City’s appealing group. And on Tuesday they will host the Serbian champions at the Etihad.
Guardiola has frequently been questioned about the enormity of lifting the holy grail for the first time. He must now alter his strategy to inspire his team to successfully defend the title they have invested so much pursuing.
Guardiola insists that his team always approaches the competition in the same way. Prioritizing winning their home games and qualifying from the group.
As a result, he is unconcerned about how his players will alter their mentality.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Guardiola outlined how City will have no trouble refocusing their goals for this season.
“Every season we start the competition in the first game as the target to win the first game, then the group stage, then try to win the Champions League.

“Nothing changes from before when we didn’t win it or the season when we won it. No more than Red Star tomorrow. It depends on our performance and our level.
“We’re incredibly happy to defend this crown but this competition doesn’t allow you mistakes. The success we have in the group stages, at home we’ve never missed apart from Lyon.”
