Pep Guardiola claims his decision to bench Sergio Aguero for Manchester City’s Champions League clash with Barcelona was down to wanting more midfield players.
The City boss sprung a major surprise before kick-off by naming the Argentine as a substitute for the fixture at Camp Nou.
Kevin De Bruyne was named as City’s spearhead in attack, with the Belgian flanked by Nolito and Raheem Sterling.
In midfield, Guardiola played David Silva, Ilkay Gundogan and Fernandinho in a three.
‘No [he’s not injured], I decide for other players,’ Guardiola told BT Sport.
‘I want more midfield players today and that’s the reason why.
‘We come here to try to win the game, I know how important Sergio is for us, but I want a more midfield players in the middle.’
