Manchester City’s red-hot start under Pep Guardiola seems to be proving the old saying that the brighter the flame, the shorter it burns, as Manchester United condemned the Spaniard to a sixth-straight game without a victory.
Juan Mata grabbed the winner on Wednesday night in a 1-0 win for the Catalan’s old rival Jose Mourinho, leaving Guardiola to reflect on a poor stretch of form.
“I do everything the same now as when we won 10 games in a row, these slumps happen to everyone,” Guardiola told the media at Old Trafford.
“People think I have a magic wand, but those don’t exist in football.
“Every team has good and bad results, I hope it doesn’t happen again but it’s part of my job and I won’t change a thing.”
There’ll be no EFL Cup winners’ medal to crown Guardiola’s first year in England, with City facing West Brom and Barcelona in their next two games after the loss to United.
“In the first-half we had two clear counter-attacks that we couldn’t finish,” he added. “I’m very proud of our team and the young players.”
