Kalvin Phillips won’t be traveling with Manchester City to play Leicester City on Saturday because he hasn’t fully healed from his injury, according to Guardiola.
The 26-year-old underwent surgery in September to address a persistent shoulder issue, and he won’t be able to return until November.
Phillips has been working out individually and has established contact with the ball, according to Guardiola, but he isn’t yet working with his teammates.
However, the England international has astonished the support staff with how well he is feeling right now.
What Guardiola Said?
Pep said in Friday’s pre-match press conference: “(He is) not ready for Leicester. (Kalvin is) better.
“When he came to Dortmund, he said he feels really well. He started to train with contact with the ball – he has not trained with his team-mates yet, but he feels really well, and we are surprised.”
Since moving from Leeds United in the summer, Phillips has only made a meager three appearances across all leagues, totaling just 13 minutes of action.

Guardiola’s worst worries have come true because the 26-year-old battled with injuries at Leeds, missing 18 league games in 2021–2022.
It’s good news that Phillips is training on grass and working with the ball, but his return is still weeks away if he’s not working with his teammates yet.
