Guardiola reveals he wanted “master” David Silva at Barcelona

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that he was priced out of a move for David Silva when in charge of Barcelona.

Silva has performed to a consistently high standard throughout his City career and has arguably improved even further under Guardiola’s guidance.

Guardiola was eager to praise Silva, who he described as a club legend.

Guardiola told reporters at a press conference: “David Silva is a legend for the club. It would have been amazing to have taken him at Barcelona but he was too expensive!

“I believe it is impossible to play good if the ball doesn’t pass in the middle. David is a master.”

Silva has played a pivotal part in City’s sensational start to the season, which sees the club top of the Premier League having won nine of their ten fixtures so far.

Superb at retaining possession, Silva has been successful with 91 per cent of his attempted passes in the Premier League this season, while he has created 28 chances.

City face Napoli away in the Champions League tomorrow night and Guardiola’s team will secure their place in the Last 16 if they avoid defeat.

Following the Napoli game City will turn their attention to Sunday’s high-profile Premier League encounter against Arsenal.
