Guardiola Says City’s Summer Transfer Business Is Over After £104m spend

Pep Guardiola says Manchester City have concluded their business in the transfer window, unless something unforeseen occurs before the deadline. The Premier League winners have signed Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips, and Anderlecht left-back Sergio Gomez for a cost of £104 million ($123 million).

Striker Julian Alvarez has also joined the squad after joining from River Plate in January, and Guardiola has stated that he would not be bringing in any new players unless someone departs.

What Did Pep Guardiola Say About Transfers?

Gomez completed his deal from Anderlecht this week as a replacement for Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Guardiola said he will be in the squad to face Newcastle on Sunday.

When asked if City had exhausted their transfer options, Guardiola replied: “Apparently, yes. But if someone moves, or there is a problem that we don’t expect maybe happens, but apparently it’s done.”

He has always stated that players can leave City if they are unhappy, with Bernardo possibly interested in a move to Spain.

How Did The Transfer Window Go?

If everything goes as planned, City will end the summer with a profit on their transfer business.

City spent £51m ($60m) to activate Haaland’s release clause, another £42m ($50m) for England international Phillips, and an initial £11m ($13m) for Gomez.

But they’ve more than made up for it with the sales of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal for £45m ($53m) and £32m ($38m), respectively, as well as £47.5m ($56m) to Chelsea for Raheem Sterling and the transfer of a number of periphery players to Southampton, including Gazunu and Romeo Lavia.
