Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is likely to meet Premier League referees’ chief Mike Riley for the second time this season after expressing concerns regarding the standard of officiating in the English top flight.
Guardiola has been vocal in his criticism of referees this season and had particular cause to be aggrieved during his side’s game against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday as Andre Marriner decided not to give City a spot-kick when Kyle Walker pushed Raheem Sterling in the penalty area. Tottenham went on to find the net through Heung-min Son shortly afterwards, leaving Guardiola hugely annoyed.
As reported by The Times, Guardiola recently held talks with Riley having grown frustrated with decisions that have gone against City.
Following the 2-2 draw with Tottenham, City are in fifth place in the Premier League table, eleven points adrift of leaders Chelsea. City have won just one of their past four top flight games, although their overall performance against Tottenham was rather encouraging.
