Pep Guardiola warned that Manchester City will come back even stronger next season as 100,000 supporters lined the streets for Monday night’s victory parade.
Fans climbed lamp posts and stole glimpses of City’s stars from shop windows and roofs before their manager danced along to a terrace chant on stage.
Guardiola then vowed to deliver more trophies after lifting the Premier League and Carabao Cup in his second season in charge.
‘This summer we’ll watch the World Cup on the sofa – we’ll have some good beer, good red wine, and enjoy what we have done. Then we’ll come back stronger than this season,’ Guardiola said.
‘I think we have been provided with outstanding players. To achieve what we’ve done, you cannot do it without the quality of players we have. They are great people too.
‘Thank you for coming guys. We are delighted to share what we have done together. Next season you will see us again.’
The City bus was described as ‘absolute carnage’ as players threw Heineken and champagne over each other. Flares and smoke bombs were lobbed on to the vehicle by fans as their heroes basked in the glory.
Leroy Sane dropped one flare on board and Yaya Toure playfully passed them to a second bus carrying Guardiola’s backroom staff.
The squad were heading out to another party in the city centre on Monday night, although Sergio Aguero was absent from the celebrations as the striker continues to recover from a knee injury back in Argentina before the World Cup.
David Silva is in Spain and delivered a video message with his six-month-old son, Mateo. ‘Thank you for understanding my situation, I will be in debt with you forever,’ he said.
‘In the future I will be able to tell my son I played with the best African footballer (Yaya Toure) ever. I wish you the best of luck. I want to say everyone enjoy tonight.’
