Guerreiro revels in new BVB deal

Borussia Dortmund defender Raphael Guerreiro has revealed his delight after putting pen to paper on fresh terms at Signal Iduna Park. The Portugal international, who has extended his stay with the Bundesliga outfit until 2023, has started to shine in defence after initially being used as a midfielder following his move from Lorient in 2016.
Dortmund have endured a tough start to the current league campaign and currently sit down in eighth place in the table ahead of Saturday’s encounter against early frontrunners Borussia Monchengladbach.
Having committed his future to Dortmund, Guerreiro says he’s looking forward to trying to turn the club’s fortunes around against Gladbach at the weekend. “[This] is a great club where I have been feeling very comfortable with my family for three years,” he told the club’s official website. “I will do everything I can to help our team achieve their goals and we should start by getting a victory at home [against Borussia Monchengladbach] on Saturday.”
Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc is also pleased with the new deal for the club’s Portuguese star, who has made a total of 80 appearances for BVB in all competitions and helped them win the DFB Pokal in his first season. “Raphael is an internationally experienced and technically first-class footballer, who is flexible and can be deployed in several positions,” Zorc added. “He is held in high regard within our squad.”
