Haaland Reveals Guardiola Told Him ‘To Do Whatever You Want’ Before Joining Man City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola reportedly told Erling Haaland ‘to do whatever’ he wanted before he joined the club.

The 23-year-old left Borussia Dortmund for City in the summer of 2022 for a reported fee of £51.3million. The deal immediately proved to be a bargain after the Norwegian wasted no time to settle in the City fold.

Guardiola is a major factor in his extraordinary success. This is because his boss demands that he give everything he has during every training session. And has even threatened to “smash” the player in joke if he is not concentrated.

“There is so much! He demands a lot in training,” Haaland told The Telegraph.

“When I spoke with him before I signed here he said ‘I don’t care what you do, do whatever you want. But when you have me on the (training) pitch you have to be focused. If not, I will smash you!’”

Haaland thinks that City’s two-pronged approach to life both on and off the field is the reason for the team’s incredible success under Guardiola.

The Norway international massively helped the Cityzens win the historic treble in his debut season in England. He plundered 52 goals across all competitions last season.

This season, he continued where he left off as he has already scored 8 goals and provided 2 assists in 11 games so far.

After a dismal result against Wolves at the Molineux where they lost 2-1, City will be hoping to right their wrongs in their crucial showdown against Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday.
