Hansi Flick Barcelona’s Arrival Is Looming, As Xavi Hernandez Negotiates An Exit Package For Personnel

The local Catalan press in Barcelona has dubbed Tuesday’s arrival of the German coach “Hansi Flick day.” However, there is still Xavi Hernandez’s leaving package to be negotiated.

Flick is expected to arrive in Barcelona today and be unveiled as the new manager. However, no presentation is planned, as the management believes he is not yet ready to face the media without first settling into the club.

Xavi announced on Sunday night that he will not be demanding the money owed to him for the final year of his contract, which Diario AS estimates at €12 million, but he will remain strong on the packages for his employees. Their salaries total roughly €3 million, and Xavi knows the club can afford it; they should receive what is owed to them until President Joan Laporta intervenes.

If all of them leave, there will be a total of eight: assistant Oscar Hernandez, coach Sergio Alegre, fitness coach Ivan Torres, physio Carlos Nogueira, press officer Edu Polo, and scouting team David Prats, Sergio Garcia, and Toni Lobo.

Flick plans to bring in two of his own German assistants, Toni Tapalovic and Marcus Sorg, but it will be a huge change for the Barcelona squad. Flick and his team are highly experienced in the game, but they have never worked outside of Germany and are unfamiliar with Barcelona. Meanwhile, Xavi and his team had only worked at Al-Sadd in Qatar, but they were intimately aware with the club and all of its nuances.
