Harry Kane has stated he is willing to exchange the Ballon d’Or for Alan Shearer’s record-breaking goal total.
By signing a four-year deal with Bayern Munich at the age of 30, he accepts it limits his opportunity to score the 47 more goals he needs in the Premier League to match the Newcastle legend’s tally of 260.
However, by scoring for a team that is in the running for league titles and even greater accolades, Kane recognizes that even bigger individual accolades, such as the European Footballer of the Year award, may be on the horizon in addition to the team silverware he so desperately wants.
What Kane Says
“If you are winning games, and winning titles and winning Champions Leagues, and I am the one playing up front, it more likely means I will be the one scoring goals and that allows you to win other individual awards,” Kane said.
“Then obviously you have the European Championships next year. With the Ballon d’Or, you have to be winning team trophies to achieve that.
“But that all comes from what you achieve as a team and that is my focus first and foremost.

“A lot of people talk about the trophies and why I came here. But ultimately it was to improve and feel the new pressure of having to win titles every year and having to go far in the Champions League.
“Pushing myself to that limit. It is hard to put a number on how many trophies you want to win, but I have always said throughout my career that I never want to retire and feel like I could have done more or pushed myself a little bit more.
“That was a big part of the decision I made coming here. I am feeling like to improve and be playing better I had to be playing at the highest level.”
