Maguire has had a difficult few seasons and found himself on United manager Erik ten Hag’s bench. He was nevertheless called upon by Gareth Southgate for Friday night’s 1-0 UEFA Nations League loss to Italy.
Southgate has regularly and openly supported one of his trusted senior players. Even more recently, the England manager asserted that the United defender was the target of a “big agenda.”
What Did Maguire Say?
Speaking to talkSPORT after the game, Maguire said: “I am not concentrating on anybody else and what people are saying.
I think if people can make a story about me, I am Manchester United captain, it is going to make big news.

“So, that is the reason they do it, they like the clicks, and things like that, but I went into the Euros after an eight-week injury. And did not play one game, and got into the team of the tournament. In terms of rustiness, and things like that, I am sure that won’t happen.”
Maguire will be looking to reclaim a spot in his club team despite the support of his national team coach.
