Fans who booed England midfielder Jordan Henderson, according to England defender Harry Maguire, “aren’t England fans.”
Henderson was booed when he was substituted in Friday’s 1-0 friendly win over Australia and again when he came on in Tuesday’s 3-1 Euro 2024 qualifying win over Italy.
Henderson, a former Liverpool captain, was chastised for signing Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq this summer.

“Don’t boo players who dedicate their life to play and do everything they can to make this country have good memories and have special moments for them and their families.”

Henderson was a prominent supporter of the LGBTQ+ community while at Liverpool, however he was chastised by several fans and LGBTQ+ advocates for going to Saudi Arabia.
After the game against Australia, England manager Gareth Southgate said it “defies logic” because fans booed captain Henderson, who stated he had take criticism “on the chin.”
Henderson earned a somewhat warmer applause when he came off the bench against Italy in the 70th minute.
“You heard when he came on the cheers and a few jeers, but they aren’t England fans,” Maguire went on to say.
Maguire has been booed by Manchester United and England fans in recent months.
Southgate called criticism of Maguire “a joke” last month, while his mother Zoe called the insults “disgraceful.”
