Bayer Leverkusen’s sporting director Rudi Voller says Chelsea target Kai Havertz is the best player the Bundesliga side has ever produced.
The German star has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge after an impressive season has seen him score 17 goals in all competitions.
Leverkusen boss Peter Bosz said the 21-year-old would not be sold for less than £90million before the coronavirus outbreak and Voller said the club are determined to stick to their original value for a player who he said is better than their other illustruos products like Michael Ballack, Toni, Kroos, Emerson and Ze Roberto.
Havertz would offer Chelsea versatility in attack with the youngster able to play a number of different positions.
‘For me, he’s the best I’ve seen at Leverkusen, and I’ve been here for a lifetime,’ Voller added.
‘We had Emerson, [Michael] Ballack, Ze Roberto, [Toni] Kroos, but he’s on top. He is very young, he can play five or six roles, he has been here for 10 years. When he was 17, I asked the first-team coach to let him train with the greats during the national team break.
‘After three days Roger Schmidt never made him return to the youth team. He has talent with the ball at his feet, he is a mix between Ballack and [Mesut] Ozil, but he takes the best bits from both of them.’
Frank Lampard has already splashed a combined total of £90million on Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner and would need to break Chelsea’s transfer record to bring Havertz to London.
