Chelsea star Eden Hazard believes that Kevin De Bruyne is a “top player” who wasn’t given his chance at Stamford Bridge before being sold.
De Bruyne was sold by Chelsea to Wolfsburg in 2014 for a fee of £18 million but the Belgian was back on English soil a year later after being signed by Manchester City for a club record fee of £55m.
Jose Mourinho has insisted it was not his decision to allow De Bruyne to leave but was criticised for not granting record City record signing enough playing time.
De Bruyne will come face-to-face Chelsea and Hazard this weekend in a Premier League clash at the top of the table, and the latter thinks his international teammate wasn’t given a fair chance at Stamford Bridge.
“He’s a top player,” Hazard told Sky Sports. “He didn’t get his chance here
at Chelsea, but did very well in Germany and since he went to City he’s been on fire.”
Hazard suggested De Bruyne was a victim of the system Jose Mourinho deployed at Chelsea.
He added: “Sometimes you don’t get the chance to play, or the system the manager uses isn’t right for you, but now he’s full of confidence. I hope next week he’ll have less confidence!
“It’s good for Belgium that two players are fighting for the title in England, but I hope when we go to the national team we don’t fight! We’re good friends.”
The Man City star has certainly made himself a name since returning to England and proven Chelsea and Mourinho wrong for letting him go in the first place.
So far this season he has scored two league goals and created the most chances at City with 35.
