Chelsea winger Eden Hazard is excited by the prospect of leading Belgium at Euro 2016.
With Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany ruled out of the tournament through injury, Red Devils manager Marc Wilmots has confirmed that the 25- year-old is set to wear the armband in France.
He told VooSport, as reported by InsideFutbol: “I am happy, because I always try to be a leader on the pitch.
“I am not much of a talker, but it’s clear whenever I am on the field, I try to take the lead, with or without the armband.
“It’s up to offensive players like me to make a difference, and I am looking to play this role sincerely.”
The Blues No.10 looks to have regained top form at the perfect time ahead of the Euros.
After a very disappointing six months of the campaign – which saw him make just three league assists – he has recently produced the standard of performances that won him the FWA and PFA Player of the Year awards in 2014/15.
His brace against Bournemouth in Chelsea’s 34th league game were remarkably his first goals of the season.
He followed that up with a crucial equaliser to end Tottenham Hotspur’s title bid and then netted an incredible solo effort in the draw with Liverpool a week ago.
Belgium’s squad has a strong Premier League presence, and the likes of Hazard, Mousa Dembele and Kevin De Bruyne in particular will be key to the nation’s hopes of claiming glory this summer.
