Goalkeeper Tom Heaton says he knows his Aston Villa side must be prepared for a hostile derby with Wolves on Wednesday night. Villa are aiming to reach the Carabao Cup quarter-finals when they host their local rivals at Villa Park.
Wolves are unbeaten in their last eight games in all competitions and seeking their first win at Villa Park since back in 2011.
Former Burnley keeper Heaton, who made the switch from the Lancashire outfit to the West Midlands over the summer, is expecting fireworks given a place in the last eight is up for grabs. “The lads have been talking about how hostile that will be. A local derby, under the lights, it’ll be a great atmosphere,” he said. “It’s a big game in midweek, one we’re looking forward to and we want to go as far as we can in the cup. There is definitely some learning going on. It’s been a rock-solid start. “A good foundation. We’ve been unlucky not to come away with points in some games. Those fine margins are what we are learning as we go.”
Villa go into their next Carabao Cup game on the back of a 3-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday.
Before that loss at the hands of the reigning league champions, Villa, who secured promotion from the Championship via the play-offs last season, had been able to put together back-to-back wins in the Premier League thanks to successes against Norwich City and Brighton.
Villa now find themselves in 15th place and victory over Wolves in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday would cap off a positive October for manager Dean Smith and his side after a challenging start to life back in the top flight.
